The Academy for Conductors by maestro Vasily Petrenko

Co-organized by the Primavera Foundation Armenia and the Armenian National Philharmonic Orchestra (Artistic Director & Chief Conductor Eduard Topchjan).
From July 2 to 6, five young conductors Ziwei Ma (China), Karen Amir Latifi (Iran/Armenia), Roman Reznik (Norway/Ukraine), Jorge Vazquez (Mexico), and Nikolai Mazaev (Russia) came together in Yerevan for an intensive four-day educational program at the Aram Khachaturian Concert Hall. Under the guidance of Vasily Petrenko, they worked on their professional, artistic, social, and emotional skills essential for a successful conductor’s career.
Maestro Petrenko met the Academy participants before their first encounter with the Academy Orchestra. The Academy program for today includes Beethoven’s 5th and 7th symphonies, Brahms’ 1st Symphony, and Stravinsky’s Firebird Suite.
The Academy program included:
– Daily 30-minute sessions with the Academy orchestra
– Individual in-person consultations with Maestro Petrenko after each orchestral session
– Workshop on the secrets of a conductor’s job beyond music by Maestro Vasily Petrenko
The four-day learning journey resulted in a grand gala concert at the Aram Khachaturian Concert Hall, where all five participants led the orchestra on stage in front of over 600 people in the audience.
